The Medstead Players theatrical productions over the weekend turned into a fun filled event for the local community. The theme 'Double Travel' provided two one act comedies; Holiday (by Colin Calvert) and All by myself (by Robert Scott) in Medstead Village Hall.
'Holiday' was set in a Travel Agency and for those that remembered the thrill of pawing over brochures and languishing on chairs as the booking clerk wielded their magic for adventure, travel and tranquility, this was a take on travel from the eyes of the comical mischievous Donna Brown (and her side kick hairdresser friend drafted at last minute.com Sandra. It reminded me of a blend of 'Miranda' meets 'Basil Fawlty' humour, as the two main characters entertained themselves by stereotypical clients (of holiday makers setting out into the new travel frontiers even for some Shanklin was the highlight), an undercover boss and the odd scotch drinking or two, when mixed together made for truly magical holiday cocktail of fun. All I can say is 'throw the dice, name you price' and away you go, your holiday's booked. Just remember, there is always a ray of sunshine Donna in our lives that inspires us all to travel once more.
'All by myself' - if you were stranded on desert island seeking solace, this was not the island for you. 'Larry the Loner' found to his dismay, he was being observed by a gang of other ship wrecked urchins who had resided there for years. Upon discovery, the gathering of his new 'friends', it all went down hill as Larry found he was the subject of their amusement. The 'great escape' plan was hatched for this 'Tom Hanks Hero Larry' to get away from the 'Monty Python' madness from the hilarious and quirky ship wreckers, yet was the escape as he had planned?
It feels so long since we all have been to the theatre, been entertained by the wit, humour and comedy since the Pandemic hit. It certainly was a treat from our local aspiring amateur dramatics group with the laughter in abundance.
